Ahead of this years’ Portico People Awards, we spoke with Ivell Arnold, Senior Client Host within Portico, about his achievement of the prestigious Heart Award at Portico People Awards 2023.

The Heart Award was set up for unsung heroes who put others first, their selfless actions and powerful spirit transcends their workplace and touches the hearts of Portico People everywhere. These individuals often shy away from the spotlight, yet their impact is profound and far- reaching, and Ivell’s heart-led leadership exemplifies the essence of this award.

What does it mean to you to have won the Portico Heart Award last year?

Receiving this award validated my commitment to our company’s values and mission. It served as a reminder of the importance of empathy, teamwork, and going above and beyond in everything we do. The recognition has motivated me to continue striving to give my best to Portico and I am proud to be part of a company that values and recognises the efforts of its employees in such a meaningful way.

Can you tell us why you won the Heart Award?

I would like to believe I won Portico’s Heart Award last year because I tried to embody the company’s core values of going above and beyond in my work. Throughout the year, I strived to demonstrate empathy, collaboration and a strong work ethic in everything I did. Including getting involved with BSL (British Sign Language). As front facing representatives of our company I feel it is important to offer a first class service to all our customers.

Do you have any special memories from last years’ Portico People Awards?

One of the most memorable moments for me, was when after my name was announced and I went on stage to collect the Heart award, I felt I wanted to address the audience.
Bearing in mind there were no other speeches from the various winners, there was a subdued look of apprehension perhaps of what I was going to say.

What I wanted to get through to the audience, was that I felt every single one of us in Portico is a winner in all our various roles, but a Heart cannot work without Blood and our management are the Blood that makes us work! I really feel management should be awarded a huge thanks from us all for all that they do to make Portico a fantastic company to work for. I received a huge applause after my speech so I’d like to think I made a connection with my colleagues.

Why are awards like PPA’s so important for our industry?

The Portico People Awards are important for several reasons.

Firstly, they recognise and celebrate the hard work and achievements of staff within Portico by shining a spotlight on outstanding performance and motivates employees to strive for their best.

Secondly, they foster a positive work attitude and boost employee morale. When you are appreciated for your work, it leads to overall job satisfaction and loyalty. The awards contribute to the success and reputation of Portico.

What are you most excited about for Portico People Awards 2024?

I am very much looking forward to celebrating the contributions of our wonderful colleagues throughout the business. I can’t wait to see them being honoured and appreciated for their hard work and dedication.
